How to sell my product to a store?

store_shelfA Product’s brand design and label design is over looked and not seriously invested into by most businesses. Companies will spend 200,000 and more on equipment to package their product, but will invest less than 5,000 on the design of the label and message they are sending . Its no wonder why these companies have a hard time connecting with their consumers.

Revival of the Rubber Duck

What a unique way to bring people back to their childhood. Everyone had a rubber duck, why not make one that’s huge and throw it in Honk Kong’s Victoria Harbor. This is a great example of taking a long forgotten item of our past, and reviving by doing something drastically different.giant_rubber_duck

Selling Experiences

scrapbookGeorge Eastman, the founder of Kodak had a great perspective on selling his product. Most of the times when we buy something, we are buying it for another reason and don’t even realize it. This is another great example of how we buy from the heart and not the head.

Buying on Emotion

We buy things and make choices based more on our irrational emotions than we do with our logical and rational thought process. A great article I read sums it up very quickly.

6 Emotions That Make Customers Buy
BY GEOFFREY JAMES

All buying decisions stem from the interplay of the following six emotions:

1. Greed. “If I make a decision now, I will be rewarded.”

2. Fear. “If I don’t make a decision now, I’m toast.”

3. Altruism. “If I make a decision now, I will help others.”

4. Envy. “If I don’t make a decision now, my competition will win.”

5. Pride. “If I make a decision now, I will look smart.”

6. Shame. “If I don’t make a decision now, I will look stupid.”

What is Branding?

Screen Shot 2013-01-27 at 8.08.44 PMThis is a good video on Branding, but keep in mind, branding is not just for big companies. Branding and Design Strategy is for small and large companies and it’s not something that takes place later sometime down the road, as you grow you business. A brand should be established as soon as you come out of the gates and start your business. Brand communicates, connects and relates to peoples needs and desires. It differentiates your company from the rest of the pack, otherwise you’re just another Shoe Company, Food Producer, Realtor, Car Dealer, Lawyer and your nothing special.

Does color impact Brand?

hotPepperDoes your color choice impact your Brand?

HELL YES!

Now if I said, HELL YES! using a light Green, it would not have had the same impact that Red had. Why?…… In our current time and culture, we have adopted consciously and subconsciously that certain colors mean different things and evoke different emotions in all of us.

For instance, this shade of Red is commonly associated with the follow:

  • Hot
  • Love
  • Devil
  • Warning
  • Harm
  • and yes, HELL

Believe it or not, the color Red can even have a physical affect on someone. Studies have shown that the color Red can raise blood pressure and respiration rates.

Are you feeling it?

Here is a short article on how Colors Influence our Mood by Psych Digest

Even a different shades of a color can mean different things and evoke different emotions.
A great example is a client I had that was selling tactical flash lights to military personnel and cops.

On the Cop ad, they used this color for POLICE

Now if they used this color instead for POLICE, you can see that this color blue projects more of an impact and comes across as a authoritative figure, just like a Cop.

So when you are choosing colors for your next advertisement or brand, don’t underestimate the effect or lack of effect color can have on your message.

Olive Oil Package Design

olive_oil

Here is our latest draft for our client in New York, marketing Olive Oil. This design will go on a tin or glass bottle; we are hoping the client will go with a glass bottle, because we think that it will show better and it will also appeal to people who are health conscious and understand the dangers of BPA in aluminum.

This is far from final, but we wanted to show latest package design concept out there and hear any general feedback.
